Hussain Nawaz fails to convince JIT about financial records of London flats

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz for the second time failed to convince the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of the Panama Papers probe about the money trail of Sharif family’s London flats, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

Inside sources said the PM’s son failed to present any substantial evidence of the money trail behind the London properties and kept on arguing about remittances leading to the purchase of the flats.

The JIT, headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) additional director general Wajid Zia, grilled the PM’s son for six hours on Tuesday at the Federal Judical Academy.

When asked about the ownership of the flats in the London’s pricey locality, Mayfair, Hussain replied that Maryam Nawaz could better inform about them.

Sources said he was unable to apprise the JIT members of the purchase date of the London properties, saying he would respond to that question only after seeing the relevant documents, which he hadn’t brought here.

Moreover, he claimed, his brother Hassan Nawaz owned and run his own separate business.

The JIT will quiz the PM’s son for the third time today. The special security arrangements have been made at the judicial academy to prevent any untoward incident.

Speaking to media after his appearance on Tuesday, Hussain Nawaz had said that he had answered all the questions asked by the JIT. He said that he will submit any documents when asked by them.

The PM’s son said that he appeared as the JIT was formed after a legal process, and he has presented for accountability and was answering all relevant questions.

He said, he has respect for the law, and will reappear before the JIT when asked to do so. However, he said that he would seek help from the Supreme Court if he feels any bias or prejudice against him.
