Hussain Nawaz files plea in SC, seeks prohibition of video recording by JIT

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz in a plea has requested Supreme Court to form a commission led by either a retired or serving judge to probe the leak of his photo during a grilling session with Joint Investigation Team (JIT) at Federal Judicial Academy here.

A petition submitted by Hussain’s counsel Khawaja Harris, seeks prohibition of all sort of audio and video recording by the JIT during interrogation sessions.

The premier’s son has adopted a stance that the leaked photograph was aimed at humiliating him which is sheer violation of his fundamental right to human dignity, guaranteed to him under Article 14 of the Constitution.

The petition seeks the apex court to step in the JIT proceedings by directing it to bring the audio and video recordings to a halt during the interrogation. It also asked for an independent committee – headed by either a retired or serving judge of the top court – to probe into circumstances leading to the leaking of the petitioner’s photo, which went viral on social media, to identify the source behind it.

It is worth mentioning here that Hussain Nawaz’s photo went viral on social media on Sunday. The photo that apparently dates back to May 28 shows the premier’s son Hussain Nawaz sitting on a chair before an interrogation session by the JIT. The leaked photo raised stern questions about the source behind it.

In a statement, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said the leak was regrettable, demeaning and a breach of the investigation rules.

However, the opposition benches in the National Assembly claimed it a ‘deliberate move’ on behalf of the government and queried the motive behind the leak of Hussain Nawaz’s photo before being questioned by the JIT.
