ISLAMABAD: As the six-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) tasked with probing the money trail of Sharif family’s offshore properties is to submit its fourth and final report in the Panamagate case today (Monday), the elder son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif – Hussain Nawaz – returned to Islamabad at early hours of Monday.
Sensing the crucial time ahead of the JIT’s final report submission, he made last-ditch effort to convince Qatari Prince Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani for cooperation with the JIT, who is the sole defense witness in the money laundering case against Sharif family after leaving to Qatar’s capital city Doha on July 5.
He reportedly met the prince and handed over a draft which was prepared by the Sharif family’s lawyers before leaving to London after a brief stay in Doha.
The JIT had been insisting the Qatari prince to either visit Pakistan or meet them at Pakistan’s embassy in Doha to confirm the authenticity of his letters and record statement. Prince Thani, a former prime minister of Qatar, had been asking the probing team to visit him at his office instead.
The JIT is to submit its final report to the Supreme Court by the deadline of July 10 (today). It had been given 60 days to probe the Sharif family’s properties and the money trail behind it as part of the verdict announced in the Panama Papers case.
