ICC suspends Shillingford for illegal bowling action

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared the bowling action of West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford illegal, ARY News reported.

Shane Shillingford and his team mate Marlon Samuels were reported for suspect action on November 16, during the second Test against India in Mumbai. The pair underwent biomechanical analysis in Perth on November 29, after the test Shillingford was suspended for bowling in international cricket after his action was found illegal.

According to ICC statement Shillingford cannot bowl in international matches until he rectify his bowling action.

“The amount of elbow extension in his bowling action exceeded the 15 degrees’ level of tolerance permitted under the ICC regulations”, statement revealed.

Meanwhile, the analysis on Samuels’ action revealed that the spinner’s standard off-break delivery was legal but the quicker delivery exceeded the prescribed levels of tolerance.

This is the second time that Shillingford has faced suspension. Earlier, he been suspended from bowling in international cricket in December 2010, but cleared by ICC after biomechanical analysis.
