IG Islamabad adopted irresponsible behaviour: Azam Swati defends transfer order

ISLAMABAD: On the issue of transfer of the inspector general of Islamabad, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Khan Swati on Monday said he had done nothing illegitimate as behavior of the IG was irresponsible, ARY News reported.

Talking to ARY News program ‘Off The Record’, he said there was a scuffle between the people encroaching a land and his watchman and following that they threatened that they would bomb Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Azam Swati said had IG Islamabad Police Jan Muhammad sent a policeman, the fight would not have taken place and his three servants would not have been injured.

“I was calling him just like an ordinary citizen and he did not respond to my call for 22 hours. Then, after getting irritated I informed this to the prime minister and home secretary,” he said.

Earlier, the federal minister had announced to present himself before the Supreme Court and said that he would apprise the court about his stance and hopefully it would be understood.

He asked whether seeking protection as a common citizen was not his right. He said despite repeatedly calling the police officer, the home secretary also could not establish contact with him.

It should be noted that the IG Islamabad was transferred from his position following this incident. However, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar taking suo moto notice of the issue suspended the transfer order.
