ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court on Tuesday levelled charges on former judge and his wife over alleged torture to their minor housemaid, ARY News reported.
The court charged Raja Khurram and his wife Maheen Zafar for the torture of ten-year-old housemaid Tayyaba, and summoned all witnesses on May 19 when they will be formally indicted.
The court also rejected a compromise deed between Tayyaba’s parents and her former employers, stating that they were forgiven for the brutal torture. The court also allowed an application from Zafar exempting her from personal appearance in further hearings.
The case came to light in December 2016 after which Tayyaba was rescued with visible wounds and sent to a orphanage. Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had taken suo motu notice of the incident and stated that a criminal act had been performed. The case was referred back to the IHC for further deliberations.
