IHC throws out petition calling for placing Sharif family on ECL

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed a petition seeking to place the names of Sharif family members on the Exit Control List (ECL), ARY News reported.

Justice Amir Farooq of IHC today rejected the petition for not being maintainable.

The petition was filed by two members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the IHC a week after former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s ouster by a Supreme Court bench in the Panama Papers case verdict.

Gulbaz Mushtaq and Usman Saeed Basra, two lawyers affiliated with PTI, had filed the petition, submitting that Sharif family members may flee the country to avoid further investigation against them in line with the Supreme Court’s orders of filing references against them in its Panamagate verdict.

The petitioners pleaded to the court to direct the Ministry of Interior to place the names of Sharif family members including Nawaz Sharif, his two sons Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, daughter Mariyam Nawaz, son-in-law Capt. (retd) Safdar and finance minister Ishaq Dar on a no-fly list.

Expressing their apprehensions, the petitioners contended that the trial against Sharif family is imperative so that the Panama Papers case could reach to its logical conclusion.

Nawaz Sharif resigned after the country’s top court ruled him unfit for the top office over failing to disclose his income and ordered a criminal investigation into his family over corruption allegations.
