ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court has decided to proceed against Additional District and Sessions judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan – who and his family allegedly tortured the 10-year-old maid Tayyaba – leading to widespread social media debate on the issue.
A day ago, the IHC had issued a notification withdrawing the accused judge from his current duties and reassigning him an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the same court. The notification was issued by IHC registrar Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan.
Now after the fresh IHC decision, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court will lead inquiry against the judge.
According to police report, Tayyaba, the child maid allegedly tortured by the family of ADSJ Raja Khurram Ali Khan, was recovered from the judge’s house on Dec 29. The cops had later registered an FIR against the judge and his wife.
By Jan 2, the ADSJ had signed a compromise deed with Tayyaba’s parents through their lawyer, Raja Zahoor Hassan, and obtained pre-arrest bail for his wife from fellow ADSJ Raja Asif Mehmood.
Later, the Supreme Court took suo moto notice of the case and said it had found anomalies in the way the sessions courts handled the case.
How Tayyaba torture case came to light?
The pictures of the 10-year old housemaid Tayyaba went viral on social media with internet users claiming that the maid works at additional session judge Khurram Ali Khan’s house, was severely tortured by the family of the judge.
Tayyaba, after being recovered by the law enforcement agencies, claimed that she fell from stairs but in the statement recorded for the First Information Report (FIR), the girl stated that she was tortured by the judge’s family.
The apex court judge took suo motu notice of the case of alleged torture on the 10-year old and constituted a division bench for hearing of the case.
The girl, mysteriously went missing for several days before the upcoming hearing. She was later recovered from Islamabad.
District Magistrate Islamabad had written a letter to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) administration ordering the formation of a new medical board to ascertain the facts in the torture case.
The medical board, in its report, mentioned that there were torture marks on the body of the girl.
