IMF team to arrive in Pakistan for bailout talks today

ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation of International Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrived in Islamabad on Monday to hold technical negotiations for progress on a possible bailout package, ARY News reported.

The IMF team and Pakistani officials would discuss technical matters of the package so as to finalise the bailout programme.

Relevant departments had completed their preparations for talks with the IMF, sources said and added that the discussion on economic reforms and overhauling of energy sector would also be held during the visit.

The IMF team will also be briefed on Ehsas Programme initiated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan was expecting $6billion bailout package from the IMF, said sources.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan on April 16 had met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director Christine Lagarde on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum in Beijing.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance, Hafeez Shaikh, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were in attendance during the all important meeting between the PM and IMF chief.
