Impossible to overcome power crisis with present system: Nepra

The lofty claims by government officials have turned out to be only claims as the regulatory authority exposed the reality in clear-cut words. Nepra officials said the present power transmission system is outdated and it is not possible to overcome power shortfall.

“Poor transmission lines affect power supply to different areas,” stated Nepra in State of Industry Report.

Over 2700 MWs of electricity generated by Altern energy plant was wasted in last two years, according to the authority, while Engro power plant has also become a burden on national exchequer.

Nepra said that dilapidated transmission lines inflict Rs80 million losses yearly. To add insult to injury, the Ministry of Water and Power claims of record power generation in the country.

The ministry says 17120 MWs are being generated, due to which there is no loadshedding in 95 percent urban and 86 percent rural areas, during Sehr and Iftar times.
