KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders on Sunday said Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan could not become prime minister without the MQM-P’s support, ARY News reported.

In response to President PTI Karachi Firdous Shamim Naqvi’s statement, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar said he should ask his central leadership about how much importance the MQM-P held for them.

Firdous had said the MQM-P had lost elections in Karachi because of the mayor.

“The MQM-P did not fulfill the scores of promises made in the last 35 years,” he said adding that the PTI sought the Karachi-based party’s support for it needed to complete the magic numbers in the National Assembly.

Waseem Akhtar said the PTI leader was targeting him only in a bid for attention seeking.

Another MQM-P leader Faisal Sabzwari said since the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had left the people of Sindh in lurch, therefore his party made coalition with the PTI.

He also claimed that the cricketer-turned-politician could not become prime minister sans their back.

“The MQM-P made alliance with the PTI in compulsion. Now, it is need of the hour that we talk about development projects rather than coercions as we have to resolve issues of the province in collaboration,” he said.
