KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim in the metropolis on Saturday.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he said the government wants to provide more green spaces to future generations of the country, reiterating his vision of encouraging more vertical buildings in Pakistan to save the green areas.

“Our future generations will not forgive us if we do not take steps now for improving the environment.” Pakistan falls at eighth number in top ten countries most affected by global warming, he lamented.

Appreciating the efforts of Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar for developing the Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, the premier said, “I am amazed to see this park and Wasim Akhtar has done commendable work by restoring this park.”

“Forest land in Sindh and Punjab was encroached on. Companies have occupied the forest land in the name of leases,” he regretted adding that gradually, Karachi’s land was grabbed by land mafias which resulted the diminishing of parks and recreational grounds.

Khan also announced that 10 billion trees will be planted across Pakistan, including Karachi and other cities of Sindh.

Larer today, the PM will also address a rally in Khangarh, Ghotki. He will address the rally from the palace of Grand Democratic Alliance’s (GDA) Ali Gohar Khan Mahar.
