ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan has changed his counsel in the contempt of court case in the Election of Pakistan (ECP), he will now be represented by Advocate Babar Awan.
The PTI lawyer in the case hearing on Tuesday informed the ECP about change of the PTI counsel.
The ECP had last week rejected Khan’s response to the case and gave him another chance to submit a fresh reply within the week but Imran Khan failed to submit his reply in the hearing today.
Chief Election Commissioner asked the counsel about Imran Khan’s reply in contempt of court case. The PTI counsel said that the reply has been prepared and Babar Awan Advocate will file it before the ECP.
The CEC told the lawyer that the ECP did not need Imran Khan’s response and would pass an order without it.
The counsel informed the ECP bench that Khan had failed to appear before the ECP because he was in Chitral.
“Sometimes he is in Chitral, sometimes in Nathia Gali,” chief election commissioner (CEC), retired justice Sardar Muhammad Raza remarked.
“He is a national leader,” the counsel replied.
The hearing was adjourned till July 10.
