Imran Khan defends his 'lanat' statement, says NA protecting looters

DUBAI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan once again defended his derogatory remarks against the parliament by saying that those sitting in National Assembly is defending looters and plunderers, ARY News reported on Saturday.

“The word lanat I used is a rather mild word. I have much stronger words for them but I intentionally chose not to use them,” he said while speaking to ARY News during a fundraising event for the Shaukat Khanam Memorial Hospital in Dubai.

Answering a question about his party’s recent move of supporting the cause of Model Town massacre victims along with rival PPP, Imran Khan said that there is no common ground between the PTI and the Pakistan People’s Party.

“There is no meeting pointing between us and the PPP. Both Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif made money by looting the nation,” he said.

Addressing a protest rally in Lahore on January 17, Imran Khan had used the word ‘lanat’ to criticise parliament for it allowed a disqualified person (Nawaz Sharif) to lead a political party (PML-N).

Before him, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed criticised the parliament in the very similar way and announced his resignation from National Assembly.

Their comments, especially using the word ‘laanat’ to curse the legislature were highly criticised and on January 18,  National Assembly passed a resolution condemning Imran Khan and Sheikh Rasheed’s derogatory remarks against the parliament.
