IRAN: Pakistan must bear the expenses of its territory

TEHRAN: Deputy Oil Ministerof Iran, Mohammad Ali Majidi has said that Pakistan must bear the expenses raised on its territory in order to buy gas from Iran, ARY News reported on Monday.

Majedi’s statement come after Pakistan’s Oil Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi asked Iran to spend $2 billion to finish the construction of the pipeline.

According to a foreign news agency Majidi said that “We did not make such a commitment to help Pakistan with $2 billion for the construction of the pipeline.”

He further stated that Pakistanis should accelerate the work in progress for Iran’s gas line.

The $7.5-billion project launched in 2010 has drawn threats of US sanctions and run into repeated problems, including major financing issues.

The project aimed at easing Pakistan’s chronic gas and electricity shortages, has drawn threats of US sanctions and run into repeated problems.

The Iranian side is almost complete but Pakistan has struggled to find the money to pay for the 780-kilometre section to be built on its side of the border.
