ISLAMABAD: A high level delegation of Iran led by Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has arrived in Islamabad to hold talks with civil and military leadership of the country.
During the one-day visit, the delegation will hold meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to discuss recent border attack on Iranian border guards in Mirjaveh region.
Last Wednesday nine Iranian border guards were killed and two others injured by gunmen near Pakistan border in southeastern province of Sistan-Balouchestan, when they were patrolling at the zero border point.
Zarif meets Nisar
Javad Zarif has said his country attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan.
He expressed the sentiments during a meeting with Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan.
He said that Iran believes in the unity of Muslim countries. Both Pakistan and Iran will have to work together for resolution of problems faced by the Ummah. He said the two countries also need to move forward with consensus on matters of international importance.
In his remarks, the interior minister pointed out that Pakistan-Iran relations were rooted in common faith, history and geography. He said Iran is a fraternal country and the hearts of the peoples of two countries beat together. He made it clear that no hurdle will be allowed to come in the way of better relations between the two countries.
The Iranian Foreign Minister will also hold talks with Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz during his stay in Islamabad.
