Islamabad continues to report spike in dengue cases

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad continues to report a spike in dengue fever cases as 141 more surfaced in the capital during the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 61 were reported in rural areas while 80 in urban areas, sources said, adding a total of 2,089 people have got infected with the mosquito-borne disease in Islamabad this year.

Rural areas have seen 1,310 cases while urban 779 cases, the sources said. Six people have died due to dengue fever this season.

An alarming rise in dengue fever cases has set alarm bells ringing in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh and Islamabad. The city most affected is Lahore that has reported all four strains of the virus, including DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, DENV-4.

Health experts have warned that the number of cases and critical patients are likely to increase in the days to come.
