Islamabad: Man shot dead by police ‘for not stopping at checkpoint’

ISLAMABAD: A case has been registered against police officers who shot to death a man who apparently didn’t stop his vehicle at a checkpoint after police tried to flag it down in Islamabad, ARY News reported.

Taimur Riaz, hailing from Mardan, was shot dead by police officers stationed at a checkpoint when he failed to respond to their signal to stop. A woman was travelling with him in a vehicle and she remained safe. The deceased was a driver by profession.

After the incident, police sent the body to PIMS hospital to reportedly ‘cover up’ the incident. According to police, the driver was under the influence of alcohol and getting into a “mischief”.

Police officer Sami saw vehicle with a suspicious eye and opened fire, resulting instant death of the driver.

Director PIMS hospital has ordered investigation into those who kept Taimur’s body into morgue with fulfilling legal formalities.
