Suspect in attack on bus carrying Ismailis worked at top telecom firms

The whole nation seemed relieved when Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah revealed that the perpetrators behind Safoora Chowrangi bus attack, had been caught. However, when the Chief Minister of Sindh held a press conference and revealed the names of those involved in the ghastly attack and their alma maters being Pakistan’s most reputable educational institutes, everyone was shocked. It has now recently been revealed that one of the terror suspects, Azhar Ishrat, used to work for Siemens and then was scooped up by top level telecom company, Mobilink. There, according to one colleague, he played a crucial role in the design of the company’s regional network.

Azhar was a bright and intelligent individual. He secured his intermediate qualification from the Defence Authority Degree College for Men and graduated as an electrical engineering student from Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET). After completing his studies, he was recruited by German multinational conglomerate company Siemens, in 2004.

Azhar shared an interesting piece of information on his linkedin profile. Reportedly, his speedy work ethic earned him the nickname of ‘ambulance’ at work.

After working one year at Siemens, Ishrat was scooped up by leading telecommunication company Mobilink as a radio frequency planning engineer for four years. After this, Ishrat was further promoted to the post of radio access network team-lead in the South region (comprising Sindh and Balochistan).

Another accomplice in the Ismaili bus attack in Karachi as well as the mastermind of Sabeen Mahmud’s murder, Saad Aziz was a graduate of IBA. The Ismaili bus attack claimed the lives of 47 members of the Ismaili community when six armed assailants opened fire on a bus carrying residents of Al-Azhar Garden.
