Along the seafront of Naples in Italy, 100 chefs collaborated to create a 1,853.88 metres (6082.2 feet / 1.15 miles) long Neapolitan, which Guinness World Records has confirmed is officially the longest pizza ever made.
The recipe for record-breaking success included 2,000 kg of flour, 1,600 kg of tomatoes, 2,000 kg of fiordilatte cheese and 200 litres of olive oil – all of which was sourced from local suppliers in the Campania region, ‘the home of pizza’.
The chefs spent 11 hours preparing the traditional Italian treat and used five specially-made portable wood fire ovens (pictured below) to ensure the mile-long pizza was cooked to perfection, said the Guinness Book of World Records.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Lucia Sinigagliesi attended the event to verify the record attempt.
Once Lucia had confirmed the new record, visitors were able to take away a slice of the delicious Neapolitan. Any remaining pizza was then taken to Camper Onlus Association, Italian Red Cross and to Chicchi di Grano Association to be redistributed to those in need.
Previously, the longest pizza measured 1,595.45 m (5,234 ft 4.8 in) and was created by La Pizza+1 of Sante Ludovico, NIPfood of Dovilio Nardi and Tomato World Week 2015 at Milan’s Expo 2015 world fair in Milan, Italy, on 20 June 2015.
