JI chief meets PM Shehbaz, Imran Khan for ‘reconciliation’

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Thursday met Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for ‘reconciliation’ over holding of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), ARY News reported on Saturday.

According to details, Sirajul Haq along with a three-member delegation held separate meetings with PM Shehbaz Sharif and Imran Khan and urged both parties to sit on the negotiation table.

During the meeting with the prime minister, the current political situation in the country and the judicial crisis were discussed. The leaders agreed that issues should be resolved with collective wisdom.

Minister for Economic Affairs Division Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Minister for Railways and Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique were also present during the meeting.

JI’s information secretary Qaiser Shareef – in a statement – said that PM Shehbaz has lauded the role of Jamaat-e-Islami and vowed to cooperate in this national issue.

Following the meeting the premier, JI chief reached Zaman Park abd invited PTI chairman to hold talks with political parties.

On the occasion, Sirajul Haq said that the political situation could only be resolved by sitting together and resolving issues politically.

“The country cannot afford any uncertainty at this time and holding elections at the same time is better for the country,” he said. Meanwhile, Imran Khan agreed to continue future contacts after Eidul Fitr.

The meeting came after Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) ordered the federal government to ensure general elections in Punjab on May 14.
