JIT may not summon again shortly, says Hussain Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz on Friday said that it apparently seemed the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) would not summon him for another grilling session in near future as the intensity of asked question has been reduced.
He was speaking to newsmen outside the Federal Judicial Academy after five hours of interrogation by the JIT for the fifth time.
“I will appear [before JIT] as many times as they summon me but no evidence has been found against us. My family has always come forward for accountability and believes in supremacy of the rule of law, [however] it apparently seems like I will not be summoned again”, Hussain said.
He was of opinion that action could not be taken against anyone mere on suspicions. “The prime minister and his family were not involved in any wrongdoing and this would eventually be proved”, Hussain asserted.
The premier’s son also said that he has no intention to contest in the upcoming election.
While referring to his younger brother – Hasan Nawaz – he stated that it was his brother’s personal decision of avoiding media interaction after appearing before the JIT.
Moreover, he said that he is thankful to PML-N workers and media for the support extended toward him during the appearances before the JIT in fasting days of Ramzan and despite the scorching heat.
Early today, PML-N workers chanted slogans in solidarity with Hussain Nawaz as his car reached at the judicial academy before the interrogation session.
The JIT has held lengthy sessions to find out the financial transactions behind the Sharif family’s properties.
PM’s younger son Hassan Nawaz yesterday made his second appearance before the JIT and he was questioned for around five hours.
It is worth mentioning here that the JIT has been given sixty days to probe the Sharif family’s properties and the money trail behind it as part of the verdict announced in the Panama Papers case. The Supreme Court reviews progress of the investigation after very fortnight.
