ISLAMABAD: As controversy continues to surround whether the two members of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had gone to Doha to record Qatari royal’s testimony, Adviser to the premier on Political Affairs Dr Asif Kirmani questioned as to why the JIT has not recorded his testimony, the key defense of the Sharif family in the probe.

Speaking to media outside the JIT secretariat, he asked why has the JIT not gone to record the statement of their key defense in the probe. The JIT’s not going to Doha was tantamount to hide the truth, he added.

Kirmani said the JIT traveled to Dubai and hired a legal firm in London but it deemed unimportant to secure the testimony of the Qatri royal. “Taxpayers’ money is being spent to meet its expenses.  JIT will have to account for every penny it has spent. Get your account ready,” he warned the JIT.

He said that Pakistan, not the prime minister was being weakened. “We need strong and stable Pakistan and PM Nawaz is symbol of that one. We should prefer Pakistan’s interests over everything else.”

He also claimed that PTI chairman Imran Khan, who he described maintained facade of ‘Mr Clean’ had an apartment in Grand Hyatt, which he had not declared in his declared assets. He had also failed to  submit the reply in foreign funding case.
