ISLAMABAD: Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the money trail of Sharif family’s London flats has decided to go to Qatar to quiz the prince who sent a letter to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to bail out the rulers facing corruption charges in Panama Papers case.

The JIT took recourse to the apex court seeking permission, through the Registrar office, to go to Qatar for investigation.

Qatari Prince Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al Thani had said he is willing to record his statement while in his own country.

In a letter to SC’s registrar, the JIT was of the opinion that it is imperative for them to go to Qatar to question the Qatari prince.

As soon as the court gives a go-ahead, the team’s two members will go to Doha to get his statement recorded.

The Registrar office says the investigators are free to conduct the inquiry; however, the matter has been forwarded to seek the permission of the bench hearing Panama implementation case.

As soon as the JIT gets permission from the Supreme Court, it would contact the Pakistan embassy in Qatar through Ministry of Foreign Affairs for fixing date of the meeting.
