Joint sitting of Parliament to discuss security situation today

ISLAMABAD: A joint sitting of the Parliament is to be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday (today) to discuss the security situation in country after a sharp escalation of tensions with India.

Pakistani forces shot down two intruding Indian warplanes on the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday morning.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan will table a motion in the joint sitting at the Parliament House to discuss the the external threat to the country.

In a key meeting of Pakistan’s political and military leadership yesterday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and military officials provided the military’s input to the participants at an in-camera session at the Parliament House.

The meeting was attended by the Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Senate, Speaker National Assembly, Defence Minister, former president and an opposition leader Asif Ali Zardari, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and other parliamentary leaders attended the important meeting.

The parliamentary leaders of all political parties expressed their solidarity with the armed forces of Pakistan to counter any aggression.

Foreign Minister Qureshi briefed the opposition on the government’s foreign policy strategy and the decisions taken during the National Command Authority (NCA) session.

The participants unanimously expressed that they stand united against any aggression against Pakistan and will support the government and its institutions unconditionally.
