ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan on Tuesday announced that it had placed Jamat-ud-Dawah (JuD) and its charity wing Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) on the First Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, ARY News reported.

The First Schedule, as per section 11B of the ATA, lists organisations that are involved in terrorism or are controlled by a person or organisation involved in terrorism.

Last month on February 21, the government had restored the ban on the two organisations after the National Security Committee meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, had given a go-ahead for indiscriminate action against all banned outfits.

The two outfits had been outlawed in 2018 through a presidential ordinance which had amended the ATA to include all those organisations which had been declared proscribed by the United Nations Security Council.

Tuesday’s developments are, therefore, an extension of February’s action against the two organisations. Today’s notification brings the number of organisations banned in Pakistan to 70.

Earlier in the day, State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi had announced that the government had taken into custody 44 persons including Mufti Abdul Rauf and Hammad Azhar for their links with proscribed organisations.

The minister, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, had said that the government would not allow anyone to use Pakistani soil against Pakistan and other countries.
