Karachi child abduction ‘scare’ echoes in National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi on Thursday invited opposition for legislation to take strict action against the elements involved in child abduction.

The minister said this while responding to a calling attention notice regarding major crime of child abduction in Karachi threatening human rights.

He said, “On the instructions of prime minister, I will visit Karachi soon and meet PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto to discuss the issues of child abduction”.

“We want to make the laws for the safety of our next generation with the consensus of the other political parties,” he added.

He said that the government would also take all stakeholders on board for ensuring strict action against the elements involved in child abduction.

Earlier today, Additional Inspector General Karachi Ameer Sheikh said a particular political party was spreading abduction scare in the metropolis.

The Karachi police chief said a political group is using social media to spread rumours of rampant kidnappings in the city.

Regarding a missing boy, Rehan, in Sohrab Goth who was later found dead, Sheikh said the murderer of the boy had been caught from Peshawar and he lived in the same locality of the victim. The accused is being shifted to Karachi today, he added.

Rehan was reported missing from within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station was found murdered.

The additional IG narrated another incident of child abduction in New Karachi who was recovered from Liaquatabad later the same night.
