KARACHI: The ongoing campaign against fancy number plates in Karachi has been temporarily suspended.
Traffic police personnel have been directed to remain deployed on city roads, while DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah conducted visits to various areas.
According to Pir Muhammad Shah, the campaign has been halted due to adverse weather conditions, following directives from the Additional IG Karachi.
He stated that the primary objective is to facilitate the public rather than cause inconvenience. All officers and personnel across the city’s 90 traffic sections have been deployed on the roads.
The DIG added that the campaign against fancy number plates will remain suspended as long as the current weather conditions persist.
It is to be noted that Karachi police on Wednesday launched a citywide crackdown against vehicles and motorcycles using unapproved or fake number plates.
The campaign had been initiated on the directives of Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan, with joint operations carried out by traffic police, district police, excise authorities, the driving licence branch, and the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).
