Pakistan and Karachi Kings’ head coach Mickey Arthur revealed that his stint with the Pakistan Super League’s franchise triggered his fascination for Pakistan cricket that eventually helped him accept the coaching job offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“I worked with Karachi Kings and that sort of triggered my fascination little bit for Pakistan cricket and then when the job came up, we chatted about it, it was because I had worked with Karachi Kings that I eventually got attracted to it,” Mickey Arthur told ARY News.

Karachi Kings’ fans are hoping that Mickey Arthur will take their team to PSL victory this time in a similar fashion as he steered the Pakistan team to Champions Trophy triumph last year.

“There will be no better satisfaction for me at the minute than going to Karachi for the final with Karachi Kings, it will be fantastic,” he expressed.

Arthur is delighted to have a seasoned cricketer like Shahid Afridi in his ranks to groom young cricketers in the squad with his experience.

“Shahid Afridi is a fantastic cricketer, he will be imparting his knowledge to all these young players that we have got, which is amazing. It will be a great opportunity for the youngsters,” he stated.

“I think Imad (Wasim) can learn a bit from Shahid as well, I am really excited to have him aboard and to have him with us.”

Talking about the young talent coming in through PSL, Arthur said he hopes to get at least three players before heading to World Cup 2019 in England.

“We know all about our main players but we are looking for three positions to finish off our World Cup squad. I am hoping that the PSL throws those out. PSL has given us Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan last year, the year before it gave us Hasan Ali,” he said.

“I am hoping that there are one or two players that come through for us in the PSL and they can fill the gaps that we are looking for in the Pakistan team,” he mentioned.

“Working with Mushtaq Ahmed Kalhoro, Mohammad Taha or Hasan Mohsin in the nets allows myself and the support staff to make them better cricketers as well, so when they go back to the domestic cricket, they are far better and more enriched with this experience, so that is key,” he added.
