KARACHI: K-Electric and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) systems in Karachi are severely affected after heavy rainfall, with widespread outages reported across the city, ARY News reported.
More than 700 feeders of K-Electric are currently tripped as rain continues in Karachi, while water accumulation in substations is also disrupting supply, leaving several areas without electricity for hours. Power failures are also being reported due to damaged wires and faulty PMTs.
Multiple areas, including Sultanabad, Landhi, Korangi, Saudabad, and Shah Faisal are facing electricity outages. Other affected localities in Karachi include Kathore, Gadap, Orangi Town, Manghopir, and SITE Area.
Residents in New Karachi, Surjani, Garden, and Korangi are also without power, while outages are reported in Scheme 33, FB Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Malir.
In addition, Sher Shah, Baldia, Ittehad Town, and Moach Goth are also experiencing electricity disruptions amid the ongoing rain in Karachi.
Gas supply in parts of Karachi is also been disrupted since 1 pm, adding to public inconvenience. Low gas pressure and outages are affecting households, hotel operators, and industrial areas across the city.
Sources say the SSGC system is under strain due to reduced gas availability, leading to supply interruptions in the city as both the electricity and gas systems remain affected.
