Rainfall statistics for Karachi released, Nazimabad records highest

KARACHI: Various parts of Karachi received moderate to heavy rainfall, with significant differences recorded across multiple areas, according to the Met Office.

Nazimabad recorded the highest rainfall in Karachi at 69.9mm. Other areas also saw substantial rain, including Keamari with 56mm, Saadi Town with 48mm, and Gulistan-e-Johar with 44.2mm.

Bahria Town recorded 43.5mm of rainfall, while Orangi Town received 39.4mm. Gulshan-e-Maymar recorded 36mm, while both Jinnah Terminal and Surjani Town recorded 35mm each.

Further rainfall was recorded in DHA (33mm), Old Airport (32.6mm), and Shahrah-e-Faisal (30.4mm).

Meanwhile, Mauripur recorded 29mm, North Karachi 28.8mm, Korangi 18.2mm, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed received 17mm of rainfall.

At least six people lost their lives and three others were injured in rain-related incidents across Karachi.

According to reports, the provincial capital of Sindh witnessed several tragic incidents during the rainfall. In the Golimar area, a rickshaw driver identified as Irshad died after a house wall collapsed on him.

In another incident, a young man was electrocuted while working in the Surjani Town area of Karachi. Separately, a man named Abdul Wali lost his life due to electrocution near a hotel in PIB Colony.

Authorities said that in Surjani Town Sector 7-A, a 12-year-old girl, Dua, died after suffering an electric shock inside her home. Meanwhile, another unidentified man was electrocuted on MA Jinnah Road.

In Karachi’s Super Highway, Ahsanabad area, a laborer also died due to electrocution during the rain.

In a separate incident, three children were injured in Orangi Town after a wall collapsed.
