LONDON: The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) – the research and analysis division of The Economist Group – in its latest report has ranked Karachi as sixth-worst liveable cities of the world.

For the second consecutive year, the metropolis maintains its 134th rank in the listing of 140 worldwide cities.

The rankings were assigned on basis of qualitative and quantitative factors falling broadly in the categories of infrastructure, healthcare, stability, culture, environment, and education.

The survey excludes cities like Kabul or Baghdad for the conflict is ongoing while only including cities or business centres that people might want to live in or visit. However, cities like Damascus, which were in the near past relatively unstable, have been included.

On the flip side Melbourne remains the most liveable city in the world for the seventh time in a row, while two other Australian and three Canadian cities have made it to the 10 most liveable cities in the world.

Interestingly, Karachi has maintained its place for the second consecutive year as it has neither improved nor worsened in any of the five categories since 2015, according to the rankings.

Here are the top five least liveable cities of the world.
