Police arrests kidnapper, rescues minor girls in Muzaffargarh

MUZAFFARGARH: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a man for kidnapping minor girls in Muzaffargarh district of Punjab province, ARY News reported.

Addressing a press conference, DPO Muzaffargarh Awais Malik said that the law enforcement agency received several complaints of minor girls’ abductions from Rohilanwali town of district upon which they acted and arrested a man named Sajjad Ali with the help of CCTV footage.

At least four minor girls aged between 7 to 9 were rescued from the suspect’s hideout.

“Thank God, none of the girls were sexually abused before we rescued them,” the police officer told media, adding that the suspect is under investigation and will go through a poly-graphic test on Thursday.

The DPO maintained that police will also investigate the suspect for more than 300 child sexual abuse cases registered in the district in the past.

The case comes at a time when Pakistan is still reeling from the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab Ansari in Kasur.

Kidnapped on January 4 and found from a garbage heap on January 9, Zainab’s autopsy report suggested that the minor was sexually assaulted before being strangulated to death.

On January 21, the Supreme Court gave three days’ time to a joint investigation team formed to probe the rape and murder of Zainab to track down the culprit.

The JIT arrested the culprit named Imran Arshad on January 23 after the DNA proved that he was behind the rape and murder of Zainab and at least eight other girls from Kasur.
