KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to provide alternate shops to shopkeepers affected in the anti-encroachment operation in the city, ARY News reported on Monday.
The city authority has prepared a list of the affected people and devised a strategy for allotment of shops to them. KMC has completed preparations for providing alternate shops to 1445 shopkeepers, according to sources.
The authority will likely to allot shops to affected people this week, according to sources.
The KMC will allot shops to affected shopkeepers at its seven markets in the city.
The allotments of shops will be made to the shopkeepers through balloting, sources said.
Under the plan 352 shops will be allotted through balloting at the Lines Area’s Shahabuddin Market.
The city corporation will allot 68 shops to shopkeepers at KMC’s Frere Market and 315 shops at a plot adjacent to the PIDC market.
Moreover, 100 shops will be provided to shopkeepers at Soldier Bazar market on rent, sources said.
The KMC will rehabilitate 484 shopkeepers with allotment of shops at a vacant plot adjacent to Khadda Market in Lyari, while 35 shops will be allotted at Nazimabad number 2.
The city authority will allot 54 shops to affected people at Ranchhore Line beef market and 37 stalls at vegetable market in the old city area.
The KMC had earlier announced to rehabilitate the shopkeepers affected in Karachi Empress Market anti-encroachment drive, in various phases.
