KP gives MPAs raise, amends Ehtesab Commission Act

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government (KP) has approved amendment in Ehtesab Commission Act, 2014, and raise in salaries and allowances of members of KP Assembly.

This approval was given in a cabinet meeting of the province chaired by KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.

Spokesperson KP government Mushtaq Ghani told media that it was ensured that the increment in salaries and allowances was less than the raise in salaries of MPAs of other provinces. He said the KP chief minister’s salary will after the raise estimate to be 10 percent less than any federal minister.

“The perks of the ministers will be applicable from July 1,” said the KP government spokesman adding that salary of the speaker KP assembly is raised from Rs80,000 to Rs155,000, salary of the deputy speaker KP assembly is raised from Rs54,000 to Rs145,000 and salary of the KP CM is raised from Rs40 to Rs200,000.

Ehtesab Commission Act, 2014, amended

According to the amendment made in Ehtesab Commission Act, 2014, Ehtesab (accountability) Commission will be able to arrest any person after order issued by an accountability court. While, embezzlement of over Rs50 million will be investigated by Ehtesab Commission and less than Rs50 million will be investigation by anti-corruption unit, apprised the spokesman.

He said different suggestions presented by the cabinet members to modernize the commission act were also deliberated in the meeting.

The meeting also agreed upon bringing reforms in registration of FIR. “Without sufficient evidences, no arrest will be made,” he said.
