KP Governor calls to expedite implementation of FATA reforms


He was presiding over a meeting of the FATA Reforms Committee at Governor House Peshawar on Wednesday where he made the statement.

The chairman of the committee and the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Pervez Khattak,  Advisor to Prime Minister on Security Affairs Lt. Gen (retd) Nasir Janjua, provincial senior ministers Mr. Inayatullah and Mr. Sikandar Khan Sherpao, Advisor to provincial Chief Minister Mr. Mushtaq Ghani, Chief Secretary Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, Secretary SAFRON Arbab Shahzad, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani, Additional Chief Secretary FATA Fida Wazir and other  concerned senior officials were also present on this occasion.

Sartaj Aziz highlighted the salient features of the report of the FATA Reforms Committee  and mentioned certain steps underway in this respect. In this connection, he pointed out that implementing land reforms and replacement of Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) with Tribal Areas Rawaj Act are also the part of the reforms proposal. He added that establishing judiciary system under the Peshawar High Court and at the first phase, and holding local government election in FATA are also included in the proposals submitted by the committee.

The meeting was informed that the federal government has already decided to create a new wing under the Frontier Corps to further strengthen security along Pak-Afghan border.  Moreover, a ten year development plan in FATA to accelerate the process of developmental activities has also been proposed where special priority will be given to infrastructure development including road networks, schools and colleges and funds for this purpose will be provided by the federal government.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, senior ministers, Inayatullah Khan and Sikandar Khan Sherpao also put forward certain proposals for incorporating in the FATA reforms process and making it more comprehensive.
