PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa has decided to abolish Ehtesab Commission to empower National Acounability Bureau (NAB) to eliminate corruption from the province.
According to the Khyber Pakhtonkhwa Ehtesab Commission (KPEC) objective, the commission as formed “to eliminate and prevent corruption and corrupt practices and to hold accountable all public office holders accused of such practices, with a view to create transparency and merit in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.”
The decision is this regard was taken by the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood.
The cabinet was briefed about initial hundred days plan for improving quality of services, introducing new initiatives and quick dispensation of justice, improving local government system, extension of different departments to newly merged districts of erstwhile FATA and further strengthening of policing in the province.
Addressing the meeting, the CM said that merger of seven districts of erstwhile FATA had brought along new challenges such as infrastructure development, efficient services and extension of existing institutions to the newly merged districts of the erstwhile FATA and mainstreaming of these new districts besides provision of basic facilities to people of these areas.
He said our efforts would be directed to reform police, quick disposal of cases and amendments in relevant laws.
The CM would head a committee to bring about necessary amendments in relevant law. Inspector General of Police and Secretary Home would be members of the committee and there would be a task force to work on civil service reforms as well.
Mahmood Khan said that merger of new districts of erstwhile FATA should be seen as the stability of federation. A task force at the federal level for mainstreaming the newly seven merged district of erstwhile FATA was already working.
He said that new districts would need infrastructural developmental, education and health services and more importantly a comprehensive developmental plan including the extension of different provincial departments to these areas adding the merger need comprehensive short term, mid-term and long term planning.
He said we are already working to mainstream newly seven merged districts and planning to extend Sehat Insaf Card to the deserving living under the poverty lines.
He hoped that tourism would be promoted as the mainstay of provincial economy.
Capacity of institutions would be improved and share of the province in CPEC related projects would be secured, he said and maintained that provincial anti-corruption department would be improved even at divisional and districts levels to ensure corruption free Pakistan.
