KP govt ready to hold LG elections on April 30, says CM

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtonkhwa (KP) government is ready to hold local government elections in the province on April 30, said Chief Minister KP, Pervez Khattak, during the core committee meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The meeting was held with PTI chief Imran Khan in the chair in Islamabad, ARY News reported. The CM KP told the meeting that his government was ready to conduct LG elections on April 30.

The provincial government has sought permission from National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) and Election Commission for holding LG polls with the help of biometric system and electronic voting. However, both the institutions have not expressed any interest to our request, Khattak said during a meeting.

The core committee demanded the government to immediately grant right to vote to overseas Pakistanis on emergency basis. The PTI lawmakers will submit a bill in the National Assembly, suggesting necessary constitutional amendments in the law to effect proposed changes.

The meeting also decided that no PTI parliamentarian will undertake government visit to United States until the US apologized on its cruel attitude with Pakistani leaders.

It also stressed that party members must stick to their stance against drone attacks so Obama administration could be pressurized to halt air strikes altogether.

The PTI core committee also resolved to stress the government to move resolution against drone attacks in the United Nations.
