KP health model should be considered for improvement in Punjab: Yasmin Rashid

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on Thursday said that without introducing concrete reforms, achievement of goals in health sector goals is possible in the province, ARY News reported.

Chairing a meeting of vice chancellors of medical universities of Punjab, Dr Yasmin Rashid said that the PTI government wants to implement reforms in letter and spirit and considers opinion of experts from medical education institutions as vital to achieve these goals.

The minister directed that health reforms by PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should act as a  model for improvement in public health sector in Punjab.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar have instructed to focus on mother and child health to overcome malnutrition and stunting,” said the minister.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid, while sharing details of recent “Nutrition Week” held from October 1 to said that health department was able to collect comprehensive data of malnourished children, lactating and pregnant women for the first time in the history of Pakistan.

“Now we were going to concentrate on program to curb the problem of malnutrition” the health minister said.

Dr Yasmin Rashid stressed upon VCs of medical universties to make medical curriculum coordinated with the need of hour.

“Doctors should behave friendly with patients” she said, adding that “reward of serving ailing humanity could not possible in the world and one should believe this reward in afterword”.

Secretary Health Saqib Zaffer was also present during the meeting.
