KARACHI: The officers of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) have finally shown agreement to become a party in the cases against water mafias in the metropolis, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The development came after a meeting between Deputy Inspector General (DIG) West Nasir Aftab and KWSB Chief Security Officer regarding a joint operation to stop the water theft.

During the meeting, it was decided to immediately arrest the people involved in water theft besides the registration of cases against them. In the water theft case, KWSB officers will become complainants.

DIG West Nasir Aftab said in a statement that KWSB officers had usually avoided becoming a party in the water theft cases which indirectly benefits the mafias.

He announced that an operation will be started against the water mafia in Gulbahar, SITE area, Pak Colony, Manghopir and other parts of the West Zone.

Moreover, the police officer said that the department will also provide protection to the KWSB officials to release the occupied land of the water board residential colony.
