Over 131 suspected criminals arrested during Lahore raids

LAHORE: As many as 131 suspected criminals were arrested during raids conducted by Lahore police on Friday.

The crackdowns were made in Model Town Division of the provincial capital.

According to police, over 131 criminals were rounded up besides recovery of six pistols, bullets, more than eight kilogram of Charas, 2,902 grams Heroin and 522 litres of liquor.

Among the arrested persons, two belong to a notorious  gang while recoveries worth millions were also made from them.

Moreover, at least 40 proclaimed offenders were included in the latest arrests who were wanted in different cases of dacoity, theft, cheque dishonour, fraud and court offending.

The police also nabbed 47 criminals for violating kite flying, one wheeling and loudspeaker acts.

The raids were carried out on special directives of Superintendent Police (SP) Model Town Muhammad Ali Waseem to take strict action against criminal gangs.

On February 13, Lahore police had claimed to round up 176 suspected criminals during crackdowns against outlaws in various parts of the provincial capital in the one week.

According to the police, five alleged robbers associated with two gangs involved in robberies are among the arrested persons. Valuables worth Rs2, 60,000 have been seized from their possession.

Besides, eight proclaimed offenders belonging to A and B categories were also arrested, said the SSP Civil Lines, adding that 55 absconders had also been taken into custody and arms seized.

24 suspected drug peddlers were arrested during the crackdown against narcotics.

The police also took 35 gamblers into custody and recovered Rs23,000 cash from their possession as 33 others involved in minor crimes such as kite-flying, aerial firing, violation of the loudspeaker Act were also arrested.
