Lahore shopkeepers beat women over alleged theft

LAHORE: Police on Thursday registered a case after a video showing shopkeepers in Lahore city’s Batapur area beating two women after accusing them of theft went viral, ARY News reported.

According to details, the shopkeepers in Jalo Mor Market on GT Road took the two women hostage on Wednesday after accusing them of stealing merchandise from their shops and tortured them.

The incident which occurred on Wednesday was instantly reported on ARY News but the First Information Report (FIR) has been registered today after Chief Minister Punjab took notice of the incident and ordered Inspector General Punjab to investigate the matter.

The video obtained by ARY News shows a shopkeeper identified as Chaudhry Ijza Manawan brutally torturing the women with cane while others show two other mean torturing the duo and accusing them of theft.

One of the other two is identied as Adnan.

DIG Operations Lahore Shehzad Akbar told media that a case has been registered and raiding teams have been ordered to arrest the accused.

He made it clear that none will be allowed to take law in their hands or torture women.
