KARACHI: Taking a dig at former chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif for his tall claims made a few days earlier of transforming Karachi into Paris and Lahore, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Tuesday said Lahore itself had transfigured into ‘Venice’ instead of Paris.

He said Shehbaz’s claims of development were exposed in the capital city of Punjab. He had been chasing his tail all this time by not spending honestly on people and infrastructure which led to the disastrous situation, he said.

“I am coming from Lahore and my clothes have completely been soiled,” he said while talking to journalists after landing at Karachi airport.

Following heavy rains in Lahore, streets and roads are flooded with water because of poor drainage system in the city. Infrastructure has badly been damaged, roads at different places have collapsed and six people died in roof-collapse and electrocution incidents.

Chiding the president Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the completely botched up situation, Imran asked who was responsible for all the losses despite the huge expenditure of Rs350 billion annual development budget in Lahore. He said big projects were initiated in the city for embezzlement.

“Orange Line bus project has been flooded with water and Mall Road has been collapsed which would take billions of rupees for fixing,” he said.

The PTI chief said the whole PML-N leadership would go to meet Nawaz at Mayfair flat and it was evident which everybody knew that the property belonged to the former premier.

This should be noted that the accountability court has reserved its verdict in the Avenfield reference against the Sharif family. The ruling which will be announced on July 6.
