According to a cricketing website, Australian women’s team captain Lanning said in an interview that initiating IPL for the females will help women’s cricket grow.

“It creates a great atmosphere and people want to watch it. T20 has been the vehicle of women’s cricket for the last few years. We love playing Tests when we get a chance and we love playing more. There’s no doubt T20 is the way forward for the women’s game,” Lanning said.

It should be noted that the first edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) was contested in which players from England, South Africa and New Zealand had taken part.

The first edition of the WBBL was met with positive reviews.

English captain Charlotte Edwards, who has been with her national side for nearly a decade also voiced out her support for IPL women.

“We would really like to see an IPL and even Indian players playing in the Super League and WBBL. It will be great for our game. You have seen what IPL has done for the men’s game; it will be fantastic for women’s cricket, if it happens,” she said.

The 2016 Women’s World Twenty20 in India was well received by the cricket-crazy nation as nearly 7000 people had turned up in the grounds at New Delhi and Dharamsala to watch their nation play its matches in the tournament.

West Indies won this year’s World Twenty20 by beating three-time champion Australia by eight wickets in a thrilling final at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens stadium.
