LB Elections: ECP to announce schedule on Dec. 7

ISLAMABAD: With the new acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) taking charge of his position, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) approved 8 new parties for the Local Bodies (LB) Elections raising the total number of parties in Pakistan to 260, ARY News reports.Meanwhile, the ECP has decided to hold the LB Polls on 18th January in Sindh whereas the elections in Punjab will be conducted on 30th January. The detailed schedule will be announced on 7th December.According to details, a meeting of the ECP officials chaired by the new acting CEC Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, was held here on Monday. It was decided in the meeting that the provinces would be responsible if the regulations and other details are not provided to the commission.The ECP has also written a letter to the provinces in this regard.

Sources told that the ECP officials gave the first briefing to the acting CEC about the details of the delay in LB polls.

On the other hand, the ECP has still not received the details of wards in the Union Council from the Punjab Government. The Provincial Govt. has to inform ECP about the wards till 5th December.

In Balochistan, the election activities have grown more active. The process of distributing electoral lists and ballot papers will be completed today. Choppers are being used to deliver the election equipment in far flung areas.

ECP has sought two helicopters and C-130 aircraft for the dispatch of equipment.
