KARACHI: At least seven newborn babies died at a hospital in Korangi reportedly due to negligence of the medical staff, ARY News reported Friday.
Sources said newborns were on ventilator and incubator, when oxygen supply to them halted, reportedly due to hospital staff’s negligence that resulted deaths of children. The incident occurred in Korangi’s Alauddin Town.
Parents of children protested strongly against the deaths of their children and blamed hospital staff and doctors for the incident.
Sindh CM has taken notice of the incident and sought report from secretary health. Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad also took notice of the incident. He said responsible elements should be identified and brought to book.
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Sagheer Ahmed also sought report from health officials. Three people have also been arrested including hospital owner’s brother Ramzan Shah. SP Landhi Faisal Noor and Assistant Commissioner Haleem-ur-Rehman along with their team visited the hospital and seized all record at the hospital for investigation.
SP told the media that police teams had been sent to Hyderabad for arrest of absconding accused including the hospital owner Tariq Shah. Hospital has already been sealed.
According to victims, seven children had expired in the incident, however government had put the death toll on five.
