Legal fraternity summons convention over military courts

TOP NEWS

While addressing a press conference, President of LHC Bar, Shafqat Chohan and other members asked the prime minister to refrain from character assassination of the judiciary and not to address it with disrespectful remarks.

They said that it took us 62 years in burying the tradition of opting for ‘needful course’, but the government imposed parliamentary version of the same ideology by means of the military courts.

“We condemn this move”, they added.

Chohan said that the military courts have raised a question mark on the entire judicial system of the country.

“Government while demonstrating utmost negligence did not execute 8000 convicts and put all its blame on the judiciary”, he lamented.

The president of LHC Bar told that a countrywide lawyers’ convention is being organized on January 28 against the formation of military courts in the country.

“Representatives of different lawyers associations and legal experts from all over the country will participate in the convention and will devise a future strategy against the formation of military courts”, he ended.
