ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission has issued the schedule for Local Government elections in Punjab while the schedule for Sindh will be issued by December 13, ARY News reported.
Polling in Punjab will be held on January 30‚ 2014 and result will be announced on February 2, declared election commission.
As per announced schedule, in Punjab nomination papers would be received from December 22nd to 27th while objections to the nomination papers can be filed on December 29th and scrutiny would take place from December 30 to January 4.
Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers would be filed on 6th and 7th of next month and these will be disposed of from 8th to 11th of next month.
Nomination papers can be withdrawn by 12th and the list of contesting candidates with symbols would be published on the 13th of next month.
While talking to media secretary election commission, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said that EC is bound to implement orders of Supreme Court.
“Sindh government has given time of one week to decide the date for local government election which will end on December 13 and provincial government can contact Supreme Court, if it has any objection”, he added.
Secretary election commission said that EC is responsible to conduct elections and ready to provide full fledge support to provincial governments.
