According to details, a hearing was conducted today at the Lahore High Court against the ban placed on Pakistani film Maalik.Petitioner Mehboob Alam claimed that the film had been banned since it highlighted the issue of corruption in the country. The petitioner also claimed that a film cannot be banned after it has been issued the certificate.

The Lahore High Court asked the federal government and the censor board to submit reasons for banning the movie at the next hearing of the case, which will take place on May 17.

Controversy had ensued when Maalik was banned across cinemas in Pakistan by the government and the censor board. No proper reasons were given except that the film was ‘uncertified’. This ban was placed three weeks after the movie had been released in Pakistan.

A military drama flick, Maalik also focuses on corruption in society at large by a handful of politicians. The movie has been written and directed by Ashir Azeem from the 1990s crime drama Dhuwan.
