LHC imposes ban on underage driving

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday imposed a ban on underage drivers which will be strictly enforced, ARY News reported.

The petition was filed by civil society member Abdullah Malik who informed the court that children were seen driving vehicles and motorcycles on highways and other busy thoroughfares.

The petitioner stated that an awareness campaign should be started to warn about the hazards of underage driving which results in accidents everyday and the loss of precious lives.

The petitioner that underage driving was a severe violation of driving laws, and pleaded that a ban should be imposed which should be strictly followed.

Justice Ali Akber Qureshi, who was hearing a petition, remarked that underage kids are not allowed to drive motorcycles, cars or rickshaws.

Moreover, the judge added that parents of underage kids will be summoned and asked to sign an affidavit in the first stage.

He said that parents of underage children found violating the ban will be jailed as they are their responsibility.  The court ruled that laws should be strictly followed and underage children will not be allowed to drive.
